Gov't launches eight new port projects in Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — The government unveiled on Thursday eight port projects in Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, which are seen to bring economic recovery and tourism to the area.

President Rodrigo Duterte, Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, and Philippine Ports Authority General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago led the simultaneous inauguration of the eight projects: two in the Port of Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro and six in the Ports of Calapan, Balatero, Bansud, Bulalacao, Mansalay, and Roxas in Oriental Mindoro.

“[They] will usher economic and tourism recovery and growth for Occidental and Oriental Mindoro and neighboring provinces. The upgraded seaports will also improve connectivity and mobility in the region,” the Department of Transportation (DOTr)  said in a statement.

DOTr has said the eight new port projects are part of the 84 seaport initiatives under the government’s Build, Build, Build infrastructure program, which aims to usher in economic recovery and growth.
