LOOK: Police join search for survivors at Itogon landslide site
Policemen have joined search and rescue efforts at a landslide area in Itogon, Benguet, where dozens of people are believed trapped.
Photos provided by the Cordillera Police Regional Office show officers at the site in Barangay Ucab, where a massive mudslide took place at the height of Typhoon “Ompong’s” onslaught on Saturday.
Earlier reports said miners took shelter in bunkhouses on a hillside in the area. However, continuous rain and winds brought by Typhoon “Ompong” softened and eroded the land which fell on the buildings.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said rescue and clearing operations were continueing. /cbb
