Tension rose in the House of Representatives when Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares took a swipe against a Liberal Party stalwart for being a “balimbing” (turncoat) when he shifted to being an Aquino ally from being a supporter of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Aquino allies downplay anti-‘pork’ rally

Allies of President Benigno Aquino III in the House of Representatives downplayed criticisms of the protesters in Monday’s anti-pork barrel rally, saying the lower chamber has ensured that the proposed P2.6 trillion national budget in 2015 will be rid of the allegedly graft-ridden discretionary funds.

Bill filed allowing gov’t agencies, LGUs to use savings

Deputy Majority Leader and Valenzuela City Rep. Magtanggol Gunigundo has scored the BIR for practically abolishing the Bank Secrecy Act through Memorandum Circular 9-2014 issued on Feb. 11, 2014, which requires corporate and individual taxpayers to declare the income earned on their bank deposits and other investments in their tax returns.  congress.gov.ph/

Another bill that may invite legal wrangling has been filed in the House of Representatives allowing national agencies and local government units to retain and make use of their savings for unprogrammed projects beyond the fiscal year instead of reverting such funds to the treasury.
