MANILA, Philippines ? Around P1 million in grocery items and assorted Nestlé products were allegedly stolen in Quezon City by the driver of the container truck who was tasked to deliver the goods to Tarlac.
The driver?s helper, Gringo Sabado, told Quezon City policemen that Gundo Onong had ordered him to get off the truck and return a tire wrench to their office in Caloocan City. He said that when he returned, Onong was gone, along with the vehicle.
Senior Police Officer 1 Mario Turiano of the Quezon City Police District?s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit and case investigator, said the 20-foot truck, with plate number CSU 983, was owned by Massway Marketing based in Galler Subdivision, Barangay (village) 141 in Caloocan City.
The police learned about the theft when the company?s president, Ellen Ladakan-Zhogu filed a complaint on Wednesday night.
Earlier that day, Sabado and Onong were traveling on the corner of A. Bonifacio and 11th Avenues in Quezon City on their way to Tarlac when the driver asked Sabado to return a tire wrench to their office in Caloocan City.
?At that instance, Onong allegedly took advantage of the situation and drove away with the truck,? Turiano said in his report.
Sabado, upon returning and noticing the truck and Onong gone, immediately reported the incident to Alily Nanola, the company?s secretary.
The police said they were still trying to determine Onong?s whereabouts and where he took the truck and its cargo.
