MANILA, Philippines -- The military court hearing the mutiny charges against the remaining 17 military officials and junior officers allegedly involved in a power grab plot in 2006, on Tuesday denied a motion acquitting them of the charges.

The motion was filed by the defense panel on October 15, right after the military court issued a decision acquitting 11 of the 28 officers accused in the case.

The motion urged the military court to rule that the remaining 17 officers were not guilty as charged for lack of sufficient evidence.

The defense panel said they would file for a motion for reconsideration on the decision.

Defense legal counsel Trixie Angeles said that the denial of their motion implied that the court saw the evidence presented by the prosecution as sufficient to warrant the continuation of the hearing.

Angeles added that the denial of the motion meant that the defense would have to provide evidence proving their innocence which is not in accordance with the Constitution.
