Marcos says not his duty to apologize for martial law atrocities

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, on Saturday said there is no conclusion yet in the curious case of Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, as the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.

During an ambush media interview in Makati, Marcos was asked for an update the government’s probe on Guo, who was suspected of not being a Filipino citizen.

“We just started,” said Marcos.

The President said there were still ways to go, as there is much to verify.

“There’s also an ongoing investigation by the Senate. So let’s allow the executive side and the legislative side to do the work and continue our investigation. (There is still no definite) conclusions, yet,” said Marcos.

During a Senate hearing, Guo’s character came into question when she failed to answer basic questions about her identity and records.

Senator Risa Hontiveros went as far as to allege that Guo could be a Chinese asset sent to infiltrate the Philippine government.
