Tree kills worker in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY — A 65-year-old worker was killed on Thursday (May 3) by a tree that fell on him at Calasiao town in Pangasinan province, police said on Friday (May 4).

Co-workers found Rogelio Surat unconscious in the sidecar of a pedicab that was pinned by the tree at 12 p.m. in Barangay (Village) Nagsaing.

He was immediately taken to a hospital in San Carlos City but a doctor there declared him dead on arrival.

Police said Surat was among the workers hired to fence a private lot in the village. Earlier, Surat cut the roots of the tree he was excavating, which toppled as he rested beneath it.

Surat suffered an abrasion on his right shoulder, an indication, police said, that he was struck hard by the tree.
