LOOK: Miss Earth 2016 hopefuls savor Lanao del Norte’s allure
Ten Miss Earth 2016 candidates toured the charming city of Iligan in Lanao del Norte, as part of their Philippine tour before the much-anticipated pageant event.
The 10 candidates who joined the Lanao sortie where Maja Ana Strnad of Slovenia, Janelle Nicholas of New Zealand, Tatiana Ovcinicova of Maldova, Rashini Khati of Nepal, Carole Kahwagi of Lebanon, Denice Frigo of Italy, Maria Rosta of Cyprus, Ambereen Yasmine of Mauritius, Dimanthi Edirirathne of Sri Lanka and Natali Rantisi of Palestine.

As seen in the photos uploaded on Miss Earth‘s Facebook page on Tuesday, the beauty queens toured the Maria Cristina falls and Tinago falls, two alluring destinations in Mindanao. To experience local culture, the beauty queens engaged in a boodle fight where they ate with their hands. They also gracefully danced tinikling as part of their memorable cultural immersion in the province.
During their three-day stay, they participated in a coastal cleanup in the town of Sultan Naga Dimaporo and a tree-planting activity at Mt. Torong-torong.
Other places in the country that they visited included Isabela, Tacloban City, Guimaras, Cebu, Boracay Island, Sorsogon, Benguet and Butuan.
Last week, other Miss Earth hopefuls visited President Rodrigo Duterte’s home city of Davao and toured the pristine island of Island Garden City located at Davao del Norte. Some participated in a mangrove tree planting event on Bayug Island. Today, October 19, five other hopefuls, including Gabby Concepcion’s daughter and Miss Earth Sweden Cloie Syquia Skarne, will visit Tacloban City.
A total of 89 hopefuls are competing for the Miss Earth 2016 crown. Coronation night will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. Gianna Francesca Catolico
