Officials bring aid to isolated Batanes island

BASCO, Batanes—Rice and generator sets were flown on Sunday to Itbayat island which has been isolated since Typhoon “Ferdie” blew through this province last week.

Two fishermen there were reported missing.

Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco said Itbayat’s estimated  storm damage amounted to P64.7 million when she flew there on a cargo airplane carrying a 10KVA generator set, 20 sacks of rice, medicines, and food provisions.

She was accompanied by Batanes Rep. Henedina Abad and Office of Civil Defense administrator Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, who said they encountered many damaged houses during their inspection of the island.
