Northern Samar town council secretary hacked to death

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines—The municipal council secretary of Catubig, Northern Samar province died on Saturday shortly after he was hacked inside his house by still unidentified perpetrators.

Jessie Tenedero succumbed to hack wounds at the Divine Word University (DWU) Hospital, about 30 minutes after he was brought here from Catubig, which was around three hours away by land.

Chief Insp. Garry Tungalo, Catubig police chief, said three men barged into Tenedero’s house in Barangay (village) Mercader 12:30 a.m. on Saturday and took turns in hacking the victim.

The commotion woke up the victim’s companions who immediately sought the help of the police.

The victim was brought to DWU Hospital in Tacloban where the facilities were better but he died while being treated by physicians.

Tungalo said the victim was able to identify one of the assailants—a village official in Mercader — but  Tenedero failed to say what prompted the attack. RAM/rga
