Marcos: Attacks expected when you’re leading VP race
Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. just shrugged off attacks hurled against him during the lone vice presidential debate sanctioned by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday.
Marcos said he expected the bashing because he is the leading vice presidential candidate in opinion polls, with Senator Francis Escudero in first place.
He also said in jest that it felt good that all the attention was given to him.
“Gaya nga ng aking sinasabi, kapag nangunguna ka, talagang aasahan mo na aatakihin ka ng iba. Magandang sign din yun at lahat ng atensyon ay napunta sa akin,” Marcos said in an interview with reporters after the debate.
On the issues pinned against him, especially on the supposed ill-gotten wealth by his family, he said that it was just a debate technique started by his rivals to put him on the spot.
“Debate technique ‘yan. Kasama ‘yan sa pamumulitika ‘yan…Hindi ako sumasang-ayon sa ganyang pamumulitika at pangangampanya.”
The senator said that his rivals should rise above politicking and should talk about their platforms of government instead.
“Ang tanong sa atin ng taumbayan ang hindi kung sino ang mas malakas sumigaw o kung sino man ang mas bastos kung hindi kung sino man ang may mas maganda program sa ating lahat,” Marcos said.
Assessing his debate performance, he said: “I think we did alright. In terms of being able to give the message as to what our programs, we are able to do that. We were also able to provide entertainment to everyone watching.”
While Marcos refused to give assessment on his performance, his son Sandro extolled his father’s performance.
“I think he did a very good job tonight. He was very efficient in putting forward his platforms. He did it in a very good manner,” he said.
He said that his father was ready for the debate.
