Police asset killed in Cebu ambush

CEBU CITY – A police asset was killed while his common-law wife was wounded in an early morning ambush in Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City, on Thursday.

 
SPO4 Rogelio Cañete Jr. of the homicide section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said Luisito Manzares, 59, suffered two fatal wounds in the head.

 
He said Manzares’ common-law wife was also shot and was brought to a private hospital.

Cañete said investigators were looking into the possibility that Manzares was killed because of his work as a police asset.

Manzares and his common-law wife were heading home to Barangay (village) Guadalupe in Cebu City from Carbon public market past 5 a.m. when a man on board a motorcycle blocked their path along Borromeo Street at the corner of Sanciangko Street in Barangay Pahina Central.

 
The perpetrator then pulled out a gun and shot Manzares twice in the head before shooting the woman. CDG
