Peña tells Makati City council: Recognize me as mayor
MANILA, Philippines—Makati City Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña Jr. issued Friday a memorandum to the city council and its various departments and divisions to recognize him as the city mayor.
Peña issued the memorandum saying he now assumes the position as the city’s acting mayor after the Ombudsman suspended Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay for the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall II.
He said all ordinances and documents that needed the signature of the mayor should be submitted to him.
A copy of the memorandum was also given to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Makati, Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP)-Makati branch, Civil Service Commission (CSC), Department of Finance (DOF) at Commission on Audit (COA).
In a letter to Landbank Makati, the DILG has said that the suspension for six months of Mayor Binay has removed his authority to sign city fund disbursements.
