MANILA, Philippines—Aiming for zero casualty, the Pasay City government on Friday started taking precautionary measures in preparation for the passage Typhoon “Ruby” over the weekend especially in flood-prone areas in the city.

Dennis Acorda, the city administrator and coordinator of the local government’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said they have readied monitoring teams from Pasay Rescue in four flood-critical areas—Maricaban, Malibay, Kalayaan and Villamor/Pildera.

“These teams will be activated once the city has been placed on orange alert (intense rain needing possible evacuation),” Acorda said, noting that the local government was now on “high monitoring mode alert” for the approaching typhoon.
