BIFF kills Sultan Kudarat mayor’s brother-farmer
MANILA, Philippines—Suspected Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) members shot to death on Thursday a farmer who was a brother of a town mayor in Sultan Kudarat province.
Senior Superintendent Rex Dela Rosa, Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office director, said Maximo Salamanca was gunned down by suspected BIFF men after the group harassed a civilian community amid a clash with government troops.
Dela Rosa said after Salamanca hid for safety in his house, he went out to check his farm. But while the farmer was on his way, he encountered armed men who immediately shot him several times.
Salamanca is the brother of Emilio Salamanca, a former mayor of President Quirino town, where the shooting took place.
It was earlier reported that the Islamic rebels harassed the people of Barangay (village) Bagumbayan in President Quirino town.
