UP student uses fabric in artwork
AN art exhibit that features fabrics and threads opened yesterday at the Cebu City Museum, in partnership with the Cultural and Historical Commission (CHC).
The exhibit, entitled “Tahi,” is the debut exhibit by Doreen Mancao Sarco, a Fine Arts student from the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu.
Tahi showcases images of childhood memories of the artist made from stitched fabric.
“I want to show to the public the use of other medium in producing art. It’s not only acrylic and oil that can be used on a canvass,” Sarco said when asked why fabric was her medium.
“Sewing is not the usual artwork, it is an alternative medium,” said Sarco, who gets her inspiration from Marina Cruz, who won the Philippine Art Award in 2007.
Among those who graced the opening ceremony were CHC officials and UP Fine Arts professors. Mancao has 10 artworks on display until March 17.
