Marcos orders DPWH to expedite Cavite flood control project

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. instructed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the completion of the Cavite Industrial Area - Flood Risk Management Project (CIA-FRMP).

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. instructed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the completion of the Cavite Industrial Area – Flood Risk Management Project (CIA-FRMP).

In his speech during an assistance distribution event in Cavite on Thursday, Marcos also ordered the agency to make sure that the project can withstand recurring flooding.

“To the DPWH, let’s ensure that this is completed as soon as possible and make sure that it is of good quality so that it can withstand the flooding caused by climate change,” Marcos said.

The original timeline of the CIA-FRMP was from October 2019 to April 2024, but it was moved  from April 2025 until September 2029.

The extension came with changes in scope of work and additional funding.

Aside from that, Marcos also mentioned his order to the DPWH, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and other agencies to revisit the Flood Control Masterplans.

During the event, a total of P42.33 million in financial assistance was given to 4,233 farmers and fishermen affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon.

But while many Filipinos are yet to recover from the devastation of the recent calamities, the state weather bureau warned that Typhoon Ofel (international name: Usagi) has already reached the super typhoon category.

Meanwhile, a tropical storm bearing the international name Man-yi may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday evening. It will be assigned the local name Pepito once it enters PAR.
