Young man gunned down by lover’s ex-boyfriend

A 19-YEAR-OLD man was shot dead by his live-in partner’s ex-lover in barangay Tinaan, Naga City, southern Cebu.

Three other persons were killed and another one wounded in separate shooting incidents in Cebu over the weekend.

Giovani Flores, a native of Davao City, succumbed to a gunshot wound in in the left armpit. He died while being brought to a hospital.

The assailant, Alfredo Geraldizo, 18, fled after the shooting, said police.

A love triangle was believed to be the motive in the shooting, said PO2 Ronjie Nadora of Naga police.

Police said Geraldizo couldn’t accept that he and his former girlfriend, who then became Flores’ lover, broke up.

The 17-year-old girl and Flores were in their house when Geraldizo arrived and asked Flores if they could talk past midnight last Saturday.

The girl told police that she thought Geraldizo visited them for a reconciliation.

The girl said the two men talked outside the house.

The girl said Geraldizo left for a while but returned moments later and without warning shot Flores using an unknown firearm.

Three hours earlier, a pedicab driver was shot and wounded by  a motorcycle-riding assailant in barangay South Poblacion, Naga City.

Mateo Canilao, 49, was transporting a passenger when he was shot in the body by the backrider of a motorcycle.

Canilao was taken to a hospital.

In barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, southern Cebu, a 56-year-old man was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in front of a cockpit past 4 p.m. last Saturday.

Ildefonso Viga died with gunshot wounds in the neck, right shoulder and right cheek.

Police said Viga was waylaid while driving a motorcycle.

Police are still investigating possible motives for the crime.

In Cebu City, a man was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant while sleeping at home past 3 a.m. yesterday.

Police said the assailant broke into Jack Seballos’ house in barangay Inayawan and started firing.

Although wounded, Seballos was still able to run outside.  The assailant chased the victim and finished him off with more shots.

The gunman fled after the attack, said police.

Police are also investigating another shooting incident where a 64-year-old farmer was shot dead by an unidentified gunman inside a hut in barangay Ipil, Carmen town, northern Cebu.
