PILAR, Bataan – Smuggled cigarettes worth P198,000 were confiscated by personnel of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group Region 3 during an entrapment operation in Villa Juana Compound in Barangay Rizal here on Tuesday. 

Police report said eight boxes of “Modern” cigarettes were held following the arrest of two suspects aged 32 and 40, whose identities were withheld.

Policemen seized the contrabands after one of them conducted a test buy.

The suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 8524, or “The National Internal Revenue Code of 1997.”

The local government units of Bataan have passed ordinances banning the sale of cigarettes in local stores. Health authorities, likewise, warned against smoking and vaping./coa
