MMDA sets road closures, traffic plans for June 12 Edsa marathon
MANILA, Philippines — Several portions of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) will be closed for the Manila Marathon to be held on Friday, June 12, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday.
MMDA said that traffic management measures will be in place from SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City to Quezon City Academy (QCU) U-turn slot in Quezon and vice versa. The 42-kilometer marathon will begin at 11:30 p.m. on June 12 until 7:30 a.m. on June 13.

The agency noted that only the 42-kilometer category will use the routes in Edsa. Meanwhile, the MMDA will implement temporary road closures, stop-and-go scheme, and traffic monitoring to the following areas:
Intersection
- Edsa from SM Mall of Asia to QCU U-turn slot and vice versa
- Edsa – Macapagal Boulevard Intersection
- Edsa – Roxas Boulevard Intersection
- Edsa – Taft Avenue Intersection
U-turn slot
- Northbound U-turn slot near F.B Harrison, Pasay City
- Southbound U-turn slot near F.B Harrison, Pasay City
- Northbound U-turn slot at Edsa Bonny Serrano (Camp Crame), QC
Flyover/interchange
- Edsa Tramo left turning ramp towards Andrews Avenue/Airport Terminal
- Magallanes Interchange (northbound and southbound) to and from Baclaran
- Ayala left turning ramp towards Edsa
- Buendia left turning ramp towards Edsa
- Estrella left turning ramp towards Rockwell
- Ortigas left turning ramp towards Greenhills, San Juan City
- Ortigas left turning ramp towards Rosario, Pasig City

“Pinapayuhan ang mga motorista na planuhin ang kanilang byahe nang maaga at asahan ang mas mabigat na daloy ng trapiko sa mga apektadong lugar habang isinasagawa ang aktibidad,” MMDA said in an advisory.
(Motorists are advised to plan their travel ahead and expect heavier flow of traffic in affected areas while the activity is ongoing.)

It added that motorists can use C-5 Road, Nichols, Bicutan, Osmeña Highway, and Skyway Stage 3.
Meanwhile, Manila Marathon organizer Rio Dela Cruz explained that from Buendia MRT station to SM Mall of Asia, runners northbound and southbound will be on the Edsa Carousel bus lane. The second land will be a buffer lane for ambulances, while the last three lanes will be dedicated for private vehicles and buses.
Dela Cruz also said that from the northbound and southbound portions of SM North Edsa to Buendia, the runners will now occupy the second and third lanes while the buses will be on the Edsa Carousel bus lanes.
The Philippine National Police then shared that a total of 518 police personnel will be deployed to ensure security of the activity. /jpv
