Chavit Singson says cyberlibel case tied to corruption allegations
CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson refused to identify the complainant in the cyberlibel case filed against him, saying only that the person had once sought his help but later turned against him.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Laoag on Thursday, June 11, Singson described the complainant as a “bad person.”

“I helped him, but he still turned against me,” Singson said in Filipino.
Without naming anyone, Singson suggested that the case was connected to his allegations of corruption involving high-ranking government officials.
Singson was arrested Thursday at his residence in a gated village in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City, based on an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court of Vigan City, Branch 21, for alleged violation of Section 4(c) in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The warrant was dated June 10, 2026.
The court set bail at P60,000.

“I posted bail and that’s over. But the plunder case we filed remains unresolved. Why don’t they investigate it?” Singson said as he questioned the lack of action on the plunder complaints he had previously filed.He said authorities appeared unwilling to pursue investigations that could implicate powerful individuals.
Singson also cited the country’s growing debt burden and urged the public to support efforts to expose alleged corruption.
He maintained that those responsible for wrongdoing would eventually be held accountable.
“Justice will catch up with everyone who has betrayed our country. Do not be afraid. The truth will prevail,” Singson said.

He likewise criticized what he described as greed among some public officials.
“Greed is always everyone’s downfall. No matter how much they earn, it is never enough,” Singson said./dp
