LPA causes 4 dead, 1 missing

MANILA, Philippines–Four people were killed and one was missing from the incessant rains brought by a low pressure area (LPA) which just made its way out of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.

The two new reported deaths were from bodies recovered floating in Palawan, Raymundo Reprado from sitio Pangauanen and Pangulasian Islands in El Nido and Ronel Malinao from Jacana Bancao-Bancao in Puerto Princesa.

Christian Serrano and Rodel Bugoy, were fatalities from a collapsed stone wall in Valenzuela on Tuesday.

Diloito Castillo Jr., was reported missing after being swept away by strong current while crossing Catalog River in Romblon.

Meanwhile, 252 families were affected from Calabarzon and the National Capital Region. As of Wednesday night, 25 families were affected in Valenzuela and 13 families or 59 persons were inside an evacuation center near the mini talipapa in Sitio Cabatuhan, Gen T. De Leon. The rest of the families opted to stay in their homes to watch over their belongings, the NDRRMC said.

Meanwhile, residents near Tullahan river most likely to be affected by the spillover of La Mesa Dam were alerted for possible evacuation. As of 6 a.m., water level at La Mesa Dam was at 79.87m.

An improved weather was expected Thursday following the exit of the low pressure area, but a southwest monsoon was still affecting Luzon and Western Visayas, according to the state weather bureau.
