PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co confirmed this in a text message and noted that Bonoan was endorsed to the PNP GH’s male medical ward for medical monitoring and care.
Bonoan earlier faced the Sandiganbayan, where his legal counsel, Edward Ong, maintained that the secretary could not be arraigned today due to his medical condition.
“The arraignment was not conducted as originally scheduled after the attending medical personnel noted concerns regarding the subject’s blood pressure. A blood pressure check was conducted as directed by the court’s medical doctor,” Co said.
“The blood pressure reading recorded during assessment was approximately 170/100, as relayed by attending medical personnel in coordination with the court’s medical doctor,” he added.
The Sandiganbayan postponed the arraignment to Thursday morning.
Earlier on Tuesday, PNP-GH chief Col. Cleto Manongas said Bonoan was in stable condition.
At 1 p.m., Bonoan was brought out of the PNP-GH and taken to the Sandiganbayan to be arraigned over his graft charge and for the return of his warrant for plunder case.
Bonoan surrendered to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Monday, following the Sandiganbayan’s order to arrest him for plunder.
According to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Bonoan had elevated blood pressure as he underwent the CIDG’s booking procedure, so he was brought to the PNP-GH and spent the night there.
According to Manongas, Bonoan’s blood pressure had returned to normal after he had taken clonidine and his usual maintenance medicine. /mcm /mr/mcm
