Mayon Volcano logs 29 earthquakes, other seismic activity in 24 hours
MANILA, Philippines — Mayon Volcano in Albay logged 29 volcanic earthquakes and other seismic activities in the last 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Saturday.
In its 24-hour monitoring bulletin, Phivolcs said that the volcano also recorded 15 volcanic tremors which lasted for three to 53 minutes, 325 rockfalls, and one pyroclastic density current (PDC) signals or locally known as uson.

Aside from this, lava effusion was observed along its gullies: Basud (3.8 kilometers); Bonga (3.2 km); and Mi-isi (1.7 km), with minor strombolian activity.
It also emitted 2,882 tons of sulfur dioxide on Friday, and generated a plume that rose 500 meters from the crater that drifted west-southwestward and west-northwestward. This was slightly more than the 2,517 tons of sulfur dioxide released on Thursday.
Phivolcs then observed a “short-term deflation” with shorter-term inflation on the northeastern flank of the volcano.

The volcano remains under Alert Level 3, which signifies intensified unrest. With this, the agency still prohibits entry into the six-kilometer radius or the permanent danger zone and flying any aircraft close to the volcano.
It then warned nearby residents of possible hazards such as rockfalls or landslides, ballistic fragments, lava flows, PDCs, moderate-sized explosions, lahars during heavy rainfall. /das
