MANILA, Philippines — A man was found dead, “dismembered and covered with black trash bags,” inside a drum left in front of the Delpan Sports Complex in Manila, police said.

The body was discovered and reported by two scavengers on Sunday night, according to a report from the Manila Police District (MPD).

According to the scavengers, a white utility vehicle stopped on the Mel Lopez Bridge that night, and two unidentified men got out and approached two of the scavengers’ companions, offering them an unspecified amount of money to dispose of a blue drum wrapped in transparent plastic tape.

“After handing over the money and the L300 left heading northbound on Mel Lopez Boulevard, the two [companions of the scavengers] loaded the drum onto a cart and left it on the side in front of the Delpan Sports Complex,” the MPD report explained.

“While the two were emptying the contents of the drum, they saw an open plastic bag and noticed what appeared to be human body parts, which they immediately reported to [the scavengers] for reporting to the authorities,” it added.

The MPD has yet to identify the victim but noted that the body was taken to a funeral home, while the district police’s homicide unit is investigating the case. /jpv
