LIST: Storm surge warning in parts of Luzon, Visayas due to Pepito

MANILA, Philippines — A storm surge warning was hoisted over eight provinces in Luzon and Visayas due to Severe Tropical Storm Pepito (international name: Man-yi), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its 2 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said that “a MODERATE to HIGH risk of storm surge may occur within the next 48 hours.”

Furthermore, Pagasa warned that all marine activities were prohibited and that residents living in low-lying coastal areas should stay away from any coast or beach.

The following areas may experience “inundation due to rising sea water along with high waves in the low-lying coastal communities.”

In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa said that Pepito is forecast to make landfall on the eastern coast of Central Luzon on Saturday or Sunday.

Pepito was also last located 995 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, moving westward at 35 kilometers per hour (kph) and carrying a maximum wind speed of 100 kph and gustiness of up to 125 kph.
