PNP reports over P4 million damage to assets, infra due to Kristine

MANILA, Philippines — Over P4 million worth of infrastructure and assets of the Philippine National Police  were damaged due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami), according to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo. 

In a press briefing on Monday, Fajardo also disclosed that 3,063 police personnel (2,913 uniformed and 150 non-uniformed personnel) mainly in the Bicol Region were affected by the storm

“Mga na-damage na PNP infrastructure ay nasa 57 at yung hanggang ngayon flooded po ay nasa 19. Estimated cost po niyan ay P4.465 million,” Fajardo said.

(There were 57 damaged PNP infrastructure, and 19 are still flooded. The estimated cost of damage is P4.465 million.)

“Maliban sa infrastructure meron din po tayong na-damage na PNP equipment including mobility assets so far ang naitala na number of damaged vehicles ay nasa 19, while eight na motorsiklo,” she added. 

(Aside from infrastructure, mobility assets such as 19 vehicles and eight motorcycles were also damaged.)

To aid the affected personnel, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil wanted to roll out financial assistance starting on Tuesday (October 29). 

Fajardo added that the PNP is also studying the possibility of implementing a no-interest calamity loan for Krsitine-hit police personnel. 

The storm left the country’s area of responsibility over the weekend.

Still, it has affected over six million people nationwide, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
