NDRRMC: 116 dead due to Kristine, over 6 million affected

MANILA, Philippines (Updated) — The number of reported deaths due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) is now at 116 while the tally of affected people has climbed to over six million, the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed.

In its 8 a.m. situational report on Monday, the agency disclosed that 6,717,755 individuals, or 1,662,416 families, were affected by the inclement weather or flooding brought about by Kristine nationwide.

Of the affected, 561,687 stayed at evacuation centers, while 418,668 took shelter elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said it is still validating 106 of the 116 reported deaths, adding that 109 people were injured and 39 were missing.

More cities under state of calamity

Furthermore, the NDRRMC also placed two more cities or municipalities under a state of calamity, bringing the total to 160 areas.

Of the 160, the agency said 79 areas are in the Bicol Region, followed by Calabarzon with 64 areas, Eastern Visayas with 13 areas, and one area each in Ilocos Region, Soccsksargen, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the capital region.

So far, the government has rolled out P658 million worth of assistance for the affected families.

Kristine left the country’s area of responsibility over the weekend.
