Charges readied vs residents, militants in violent Parañaque clash
MANILA, Philippines—The Southern Police District (SPD) is set to file charges against residents and some members of a militant group who engaged in a clash with police-backed demolition teams on Sucat Road, Parañaque Monday, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said Tuesday.
The report quoted SPD director, Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, as saying that police authorities are now checking on hospitals where wounded residents and members of militant group, Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) may have been taken.
He said they would gather information that will help investigators establish how events transpired in Monday’s bloody enforcement of a demolition order at the Silverio Compound.
It also said SPD police, along with Parañaque City police officers, were conducting clearing operations along Sucat Road to prevent any violence from happening again.
A man was killed after allegedly sustaining a gunshot wound to his temple, and several police officers, residents, and Kadamay members were wounded in Monday’s clash, the report said. – Jamie Marie Elona
