Rescued green sea turtle released back to Ormoc Bay

A green sea turtle is released back to the sea after it was trapped in a coral in Ormoc Bay.

ORMOC CITY — A green sea turtle was released back to the sea on Monday after being trapped in a coral here last Saturday, April 22.

Irish Belmonte, chief of the Fisheries Department, said a fisherman took the turtle out of the coral and turned it over immediately to their office for a checkup.

The female turtle weighs 100 kilos. It is about 87 centimeters in length and about 77 centimeters in width.

Belmonte said this is so far the biggest green sea turtle that was recovered in Ormoc Bay this year.

She believed that the marine creature was either looking for a place to lay an egg or just laying eggs near the area.
