Work in Albay gov’t offices, classes suspended due to heavy rains

LEGAZPI CITY — Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman has suspended work and classes in the province due to continuous heavy rains brought by the shear line, trough of the low-pressure area and the north east monsoon or “amihan.”

In an advisory, Lagman said classes at all levels are suspended in schools that are not yet on Christmas break.

Exempted from the work suspension were offices involved in public safety, disaster risk reduction and health and services.

“Private and commercial establishments have the discretion on whether or not to suspend work of their respective employees,” he said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, in a separate advisory, Lagman also prohibited small sea crafts from sailing . He also asked residents to avoid crossing of rivers.

All disaster officials were advised to prepare and implement countermeasures such as evacuation of residents threatened by floods and landslides.
