DOH: 1,141 new COVID-19 cases logged, raising active infections to 17,393

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday said it recorded 1,141 new coronavirus infections, increasing the number of active cases to 17,393.
According to the latest count in the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker, the country’s total confirmed coronavirus cases have now reached 4,029,201, including with 3,947,284 recoveries and 64,524 deaths.
The figure on new infections is slightly lower than the average daily infections recorded from November 14-20 which was at 1,296. But it was significantly higher than the cases recorded on Wednesday, which was at 703.
Also, Metro Manila remained at the top of the list of regions with the most number of COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks with 3,347 cases. It was followed by Calabarzon with 1,908, and Western Visayas with 1,378.
Earlier, independent pandemic monitor Octa Research noted that Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate jumped to 9.2 from 7.4 percent.
In terms of individual areas with the most new cases, Quezon City still led with 673 infections. It is trailed Cavite, which has 657 fresh cases in the last two weeks, and then Manila, which has 507.
Meanwhile, 13,243 peopled were tested Wednesday, November 23, for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that cause COVID-19. The results of the tests will be reflected on the data that will be released Friday, November 25.
