Owner of pick-up truck in QC hit-and-run case faces homicide raps

MANILA, Philippines — A homicide complaint has been filed against a Quezon City Police District (QCPD) official who owned a black Ford Ranger pickup that was recently involved in a hit-and-run incident near Anonas Street, where a tricycle driver died.

The investigation data form filed with the Office of the Prosecutor in Quezon City showed that aside from the homicide raps, damage to property complaints were also filed against the vehicle owner, who appears to be a unit head in QCPD.

The driver, believed to have been using the vehicle at the time of the incident, was also charged.

Meanwhile, the sister of deceased victim Joel Larda would represent him in the case against the driver and owner.

Reports stated that around 5 a.m. on August 6, the black Ford Ranger traveling along Anonas Street, near Pajo Street in Quezon City’s Barangay Quirino 2-A, hit the tricycle driven by Larda, who was ferrying a passenger during the time.

But instead of stopping to help Larda, the suspect sped away and left the victims.  Larda was brought to the nearby Quirino Memorial Medical Center, but he later died due to injuries.  The passenger, meanwhile, sustained several injuries.

According to the police report, the weather was dry while the road was well-lit when the pickup truck with licensed plate NCG-8456 hit the tricycle.  Reports also stated that the leading cause of the accident was most likely human error.
