Capiz gov’t justifies suspension of quarry operations
ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The provincial government of Capiz on Friday announced that the suspension of quarry operations in the province will continue as it regulates these activities and ensures ethical mining and quarrying.
Gov. Fredenil Castro has formed an inter-agency task force to resolve all quarrying-related issues and made plans to visually monitor quarry sites.
According to data from the Capiz Provincial Environmental Resources Office, there were 35 registered commercial sand and gravel quarry operators and 19 registered mountain quarry operators in Capiz.
At least 30 of them have pending permit applications.
The province’s quarry operations were suspended indefinitely starting July 11.
