Tarlac's active COVID-19 cases now below 50

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga—The number of active COVID-19 cases in Tarlac province dropped to 49 on Wednesday, the lowest this year, local health data showed.

The active cases in the province started to climb on Dec. 22 last year to more than 50 before peaking at 1,436 active cases on Jan. 18 this year.

On Thursday, the city government registered four new COVID-19 cases, nine recoveries, and zero deaths.

Six of the province’s 17 localities are now free of COVID-19. These include Moncada, Pura, Mayantoc, San Clemente, Ramos, and San Manuel towns.

Anao and San Jose, which were COVID-free in the past several days, now have a single case each.

Victoria has the most active cases at eight, followed by Camiling and Gerona with seven each, and La Paz with six. The provincial capital of Tarlac City has four patients.

Since the pandemic started in 2020, Tarlac had recorded 23,565 COVID-19 cases, of which 22,662 had recovered, while 854 had died.

At least 966,356 residents, comprising 64.3 percent of Tarlac’s total population based on the 2020 census, have been fully inoculated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday.

The provincial government said 69,772 individuals have been given the initial dose of the vaccines and are still waiting for their second dose.
