Green nips Red, shares team lead in Customs basketball
THE Green Team bucked the absence of triggerman Jingjing Rama in beating Red led by former UC Webmaster Kern Sesante, 92-81, Thursday night at the start of the 2nd round of the Customs cagefest dubbed as the 3rd Major Alfonso Abbariao Cup – Biggest Loser 2012 basketball tournament at the Basak San Nicolas gym.
Red led in the opening half behind the sizzling tandem of Sesante and Bingo Matugas who erupted with 27 points in that stretch all from behind the arc.
However, Green sizzled in the 3rd canto with a blistering 24-15 rally led by the triumvirate of Noel Medalle, Rizan Herbito and Ting Bacalla to erect a 7-point lead, 68-61, going to the final quarter.
Green continuously spewed fire in the fourth to seal the 11-point victory for a 3-1 win-loss record and a share of the lead with White.
Noel Medalle led Green with 32 points on top of five triples while Rizan Herbito added 27 markers.
Bingo Matugas paced Red with 32 points spiked by 10 trifectas while Kern Sesante added 28 points.
Earlier, the White Dribblers skippered by Boodie Monteño defaulted Blue.
