PH logs 18.1% positivity rate from 56,418 COVID-19 tests

MANILA, Philippines — The country logged an 18.1 percent positivity rate from 56,418 tests conducted on Tuesday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The percentage represents over 10,000 additional cases that were added to the active COVID-19 tally on Thursday, which now stands at 115,328.

The DOH earlier reported an 18.2 percent positivity rate from 43,759 tests conducted on Monday, 19.3 percent from 41,673 tests on Sunday, and 20.2 percent from 59,551 tests conducted on Saturday.

Guido David of the OCTA Research said on Wednesday that the average of new COVID-19 cases in the country from September 30 to October 6 was 12,455. He said that additional cases in the country “continue to drop” and that the reproduction number, or the number of individuals being infected by one case, was at 0.77.

David also said the seven-day average of COVID cases in Metro Manila decreased by 32 percent to 2,642, while the reproduction number decreased to 0.67 from last week’s 0.88 and the positivity rate dipped to 14 percent from last week’s 18 percent.

“Based on current trends, the NCR could have 1,500 to below 1,000 new cases per day by end of October,” David said over Twitter.
