OLONGAPO CITY—Twelve new COVID-19 cases were reported here on Wednesday (Aug.19), raising the city’s tally of infections to 100.

Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said eight of the new cases involved men aged 21-43. They are co-workers of a patient who earlier tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Among other new cases were those of a 33-year-old doctor, a 6-year-old girl, a 56-year-old woman with thyroid and arthritis and the 31-year-old wife of a COVID-19 patient.

As the number of COVID-19 cases rises in the city, Priscilla Ponge, chief of Gordon Heights village, asked local police to set up checkpoints at the village’s boundaries.

Ponge said the checkpoints would help keep her village virus-free amid the surge in infections in areas nearby.

“We want to restrict the movements and non-essential actions of the residents and non-residents coming in and out of our barangay,” Ponge said.
