DOJ to form special team to probe broadcaster slay
MANILA, Philippines–A special investigating team will be created to look into the circumstances behind the death of radio broadcaster Dindo Generoso, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Thursday.
Generoso was killed by riding-in-tandem gunmen Thursday morning while driving his brown Hyundai Elantra along Barangay Piapi in Dumaguete City.
He is the second broadcaster attacked in less than two weeks. Last Oct. 30, Benjie Caballero, acting station manager of local radio station Juan FM and a provincial stringer for a tabloid newspaper was shot while waiting for a ride outside his house.
“Not again…we will create a special investigating team to look into this incident asap,” Guevarra said in a message to reporters.
Guevarra said he will issue the order creating the special investigating team and the NBI may be tapped to assist in the investigation “as circumstances may warrant.”
Under Administrative Order No. 1, the Secretary of Justice sits as chair of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security. /muf
