/ 05:00 AM October 26, 2019

CEBU CITY—An online scammer traced to Nigeria was able to take at least $3,900 (P199,000) of supposed donations using the name of Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.

On Monday, Palma reiterated his disclaimer, saying he had not asked for solicitations. “I do not ask and never solicit funds from different institutions/groups, nor does my staff without my prior knowledge, formal consent and definite authorization,” he said in a statement.

He asked everyone to report such emails to the Archbishop’s Palace in Cebu City through phone numbers (032)253-3382 and (032)254-0951. —DALE ISRAEL
