2 pedestrians killed in separate Quezon road accidents

LUCENA CITY, Philippines – Two pedestrians were killed after being hit by speeding motorcycles in two separate accidents in Lucena City and Padre Burgos town in Quezon province on Friday, police said.

Police said Jessamy Cantos, 17, and her sister were walking at the side of the road in Barangay (village) Mayao Parada at around 7:30 p.m. when she was hit by a speeding motorcycle ridden by Miguel Dador.

Cantos was thrown into the pavement and was knocked unconscious, police said. Cantos died at the MMG Hospital while being treated for grave head and body injuries. Her sister was unhurt.

Police said Dador who was not wearing a crash helmet, also failed to present the motorcycle’s registration papers.

Meanwhile, in Padre Burgos town, Paterno Arbelon, 55, was also hit by another speeding motorcycle ridden by Wensel Bonganay in Barangay Hinguiwin around 11:30 p.m.

Arbelon sustained serious body injuries and died on the spot, said police. /muf
