Gunman in pickup truck strafes Bombo Radyo studio in GenSan

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, South Cotabato, Philippines — A gunman strafed the broadcast studio of Bombo Radyo DxES here Wednesday night, July 3, police said.

Lt. Col. Aldrin Gonzales of the Soccsksargen Police Regional Office told the INQUIRER that nobody was hurt in the incident, which happened at around 8:30 p.m.

Citing a police report, Gonzales said the radio station’s security guard saw a red pickup truck come from Gensanville Subdivision. As the truck neared the studio, the driver pulled out a pistol and opened fire while speeding the truck past toward the downtown area.

The studio had three bullet holes, one of them pierced through the glass door, Gonzales added.

Photos shared by the radio station management showed three bullet holes in the broadcast studio, one on the glass of the main door. The slug also pierced through the glass of the announcer’s booth and the others beside it.

The Bombo Radyo studio is on Amao Road in Barangay Bula.

The truck bore no license plates, according to Gonzales.

Gonzales said the motive of the strafing incident and the identity of the attacker remained unknown as of this writing.

In its Facebook page, the management of Bombo Radyo-General Santos said: “Magpadayon gihapon kami sa pagyagyag sa kamatuoran.”

Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, Soccsksargen police director, ordered a probe into the identity of the perpetrator and file the necessary legal action.
