Ex-OFW diagnosed with rare type of ovarian cancer

MANILA, Philippines — Maria Socorro Macapagal, 51, was living a normal life when she was diagnosed with clear cell carcinoma, a rare type of ovarian cancer, in August 2016.

Since then, she has undergone 30 chemotherapy sessions and two major surgeries.

“Despite my stage 3 cancer which is resistant to treatment, I still hold on to my faith that God will make a miracle by healing me,” she said.

In March 2018, Macapagal lost her job in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as she frequently underwent treatment at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital in that country. She eventually went home to the Philippines.

Macapagal lives in Quezon City with her mother, who is struggling with diabetes.

She asked Inquirer readers for help in raising P450,000 for her scheduled three chemotherapy sessions and P113,000 for another laboratory test.

“The results of the test would reveal the condition of my tumor. It would also determine what kind of treatment would be more effective,” she said.
