MANILA, Philippines — The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) have demanded an answer from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on why there was a delay in the release of poll results from the transparency server.

PPCRV legal counsel lawyer Howard Calleja said Monday that both the PPCRV and KBP are asking “in the spirit of greater transparency.”

In a separate interview, Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo explained that the problem was detected in the creation of data packets from the transparency server of the poll body.

The PPCRV and the KBP have requested  the poll body to include the use of open recording devices to document the proceedings. It likewise asked for a wide and broader range of stakeholders, including the minority and other independent parties, as well as preserving the logs and giving access to media partners.

“Along with our media partners and stakeholders, we urge the Comelec to resolve this issue at the soonest possible time,” Calleja said, reading a statement from the two organizations.

He added that in the meantime, the PPCRV, KBP, and other stakeholders, will “continue to be vigilant.”

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said they were taking the suggestions “very seriously.”

In an interview with INQUIRER.net, Casquejo clarified that the Comelec continues to receive data from polling precincts nationwide. However, the results cannot be published in real time to those receiving information from the transparency server.

Casquejo added that the glitch can only be resolved if the Comelec en banc issues a resolution. So far, the poll body has given the green light  to continue the probe. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
