MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Oscar Albayalde lashed back on Thursday at lawmakers calling for his dismissal, saying “they should be the ones who have long since resigned while enjoying the perks and privileges” shouldered by Filipinos.

“Let me express this that in the name of delicadeza, which is obviously not in their morale virtues, they should be the ones who have long since resigned while enjoying the perks and privileges shouldered by the Filipino people,” he said in a statement.

Albayalde did not mention any names, but in a phone interview with INQUIRER.net, PNP spokesperson Police Col. Bernard Banac said the statement was addressed to opposition lawmakers calling for the removal of Albayalde from his post.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, Anakpawis Rep. Ariel Casilao and Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas called for the dismissal of Albayalde as PNP chief, following the controversial death of 14 individuals in joint police and military operations in Negros Oriental on Saturday.

But Albayalde said that “there is no basis to call for action” against the PNP in relation to the operations, as he had already relieved from their posts the Negros Oriental police chief and the chiefs of police in Sta. Catalina, Manjuyod, and Canlaon City.

He assured that the investigation being conducted by the PNP Internal Affairs Service is “deemed in the ambit of fairness, truth, and justice whatever results may divulge.”

“Now, we prove to the Filipino people the realm of sympathizers who are in power supporting the leftist movement and its vain provision to dismantle and overthrow a constitutionally-elected government,” Albayalde said.

“We should vehemently send our condemnation against these people supporting the perceived enemies of the state to gain power themselves, even sacrificing the innocent lives of young students to attain their own propaganda against our country and government,” he added. /jpv
