Negros Oriental police chief, 3 other officials relieved over ops that killed 14

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Oscar Albayalde on Tuesday relieved the director of the Negros Oriental police, and the chiefs of police of three cities and municipalities where 14 persons were recently killed in a series of operations against loose firearms.

In a text message to INQUIRER.net, Albayalde confirmed the relief of Col. Raul Tacaca, director of the Negros Oriental police; Lt. Col. Patricio Degay, Canlaon City police chief; Lt. Kevin Roy Mamaradlo, Manjuyod police chief and; Capt. Michael Rubia, Sta. Catalina police chief.

He said the police officials were relieved to “pave the way for an impartial investigation.”

Several groups earlier condemned the series of operations conducted by the police and members of the Philippine Army, which resulted in the death of 14 individuals believed to be farmers.
