Fire hits residential area in Boracay
ILOILO CITY — Fire broke out in a populated residential area in front of a large mall on Boracay Island on Thursday, leaving two persons injured and gutting 60 houses and business establishments.
The fire, which was reported at 2 p.m. along the main road in Barangay Balabag, was put out at 3:30 p.m., according to Fire Senior Inspector Lorna Parcellano, Boracay fire marshal.
The injured were identified as Rey Sastre, a village councilor who suffered a burn in the left eye, and Verjun Gregorio, who suffered a cut at the back of the head.
The initial estimate for the damage is P22.5 million. Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire as of posting time. /ee
