The Sunspot Solar Observatory in Boulder, Colorado, USA, denied having seen aliens through its telescope.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived on Sept. 6 to shut down the observatory and evacuate residents in the nearby town of Sunspot. Thanks to its mysterious week-long closure, conspiracy theorists began hatching their own reasons for why the FBI stepped in, including one involving extraterrestrial beings.

However, Sunspot Solar Observatory director and New Mexico State University professor James McAteer denied this theory, as reported by KOB4.

“[The] telescope did not see aliens. All data will be made public in its unaltered form. Nothing is hidden or kept secret,” said McAteer.

Meanwhile, Sunspot residents continue to grow restless from being evacuated from their homes for unknown reasons.

“It is very frustrating being out of our home. I will say that and I can’t wait until this is over,” said resident Sean Williams.

Sgt. Jon Emery of the Otero County Sheriff’s Office also said the FBI had not contacted them, so the local law enforcers are as much in the dark as the residents.

McAteer also clarified other theories that popped up to explain the Sunspot mystery.

He said, “There was no killer solar storm. Solar storms happen all the time. No observations of an imaginary planet.”

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy later contacted Gizmodo to say that “the observatory will remain closed until further notice due to an ongoing security concern. The rest of the National Solar Observatory (NSO) facilities remain open and are operating normally.”

Whatever the reason behind the mysterious evacuation and closure, residents are just anxious to get it over with and go back to their normal daily lives.  Alfred Bayle /ra
