An Indian man decided to abandon a newborn baby after getting shamed for already having too many kids to raise.
Thirty-two-year-old Kochi Bitto decided to abandon his fourth child at the St. George Forane Church in Edappally, India, on June 1. Bitto feared the additional social backlash of having sired a fourth child, reports India Today.
Friends and locals allegedly laughed at Bitto because his 28-year-old Prabitha kept getting pregnant.
CCTV footage of Bitto abandoning his 3-day-old child at the church surfaced online. Upon studying the video, police traced Bitto and Prabitha to be residents of Wadakkancherry. Authorities arrested the couple and charged them with child abandonment and child cruelty.
Church staff found the newborn child at around 8:30 p.m., 15 minutes after Bitto left. They immediately called the police.
The footage showed Bitto kissing his child on the forehead before laying it down on the ground wrapped with an orange sheet.
After the discovery, the staff brought the abandoned child to a private hospital. Doctors found the child to be in good health. Alfred Bayle /ra
