Convicted kidnapper Jaybee Sebastian has been transferred to the detention facility of the National Bureau of Investigation  from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) due to alleged threats to his life, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said on Wednesday.

Sebastian, leader of the Commando gang inside the state penitentiary in Muntinlupa City, was taken by personnel of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to the NBI headquarters in Manila late Tuesday night.

Sebastian had told a House hearing that he gave P12 million in protection money to Sen. Leila de Lima when she was still the justice secretary.

“(Sebastian) was transferred from the NBP to the NBI because of grave threats to his life. This was requested by his lawyer and his wife,” Aguirre told a press briefing.

He said he authorized the convict’s temporary transfer after the threats against him “intensified.”
